We had a total of 23 walleye weighed in for a total of 43.3 #s
Results of the Walleye Tournament on Lake Erie May 19th 2007 There was no Captains Meeting due to not having a mutual port. In the past boats have fished out of so many of the various launches it has been difficult to have a meeting before fishing so we didn’t try to. Fishing started at 7 am and lines were pulled at noon with the weigh in at Hellenberg Park at 1 pm. We had 5 boats fishing My Way; Big Enough; Hawg Slayer; Fish Dinner II; and Fin-Icky. My Way captained by Bill Anglebrandt with the crew of Lynn Anglebrandt and Jim Johnson had engine problems so had to turn back and dropped out of the fishing. Big Enough captained by Warren Newsted with the crew of his wife Marti was unlucky in catching any walleye, however they did net 2 sheephead. Hawg Slayer captained by Geoff White with the crew of his son Gregg weighed 6 fish out of 10 caught netting a 1st place for Gregg 2.3# walleye and a 2nd place for Geoff with a 2.2# walleye. Fish Dinner II captained by Steve Loehr with a crew of his son Jeff and Leroy Brown weighed in 8 fish caught netting a 3rd place for Steve with a 2.1 # walleye. Fin-Icky captained by Pat Larsen with a crew of Rob and Ryan Ferdon weighed 9 fish netting a 1st place for Pat with a 2.3# walleye. We had a total of 23 walleye weighed in for a total of 43.3 #s. I had told everyone to keep all legal fish caught for the mystery fish lure bag. My intention was to have the lure bag go to the person with the most Gobies caught; as it turned out only one Gobie was caught; Ryan Ferdon was the winner. Hellenberg Park is a new launch and weigh in site for our club. Warren and Marti Newsted along with Margaret and myself went looking for a mutual picnic and weigh in site about 4 weeks ago and found this site. It proved to be very satisfactory the launch is very adequate and from the launch to Lake Erie is about a 20-minute boat ride just enough time to get all your rigging done before hitting the lake. We also found a very nice location for our lunch just across the Raisin River from Hellenberg Park it is a sports bar called the Clamdigger they were very accommodating on our visit last month and were just as accommodating for our tournament we had pizza and drinks on their outside deck which was protected from the weather by being partially enclosed and heated with portable heaters. Everyone seemed to be well pleased with the accommodations. Margaret Purves made a big pan of chocolate brownies which were well received by all the participants. The Sunday portion of this tournament was cancelled due to lack of participation; only one boat was committed to fishing. I cannot thank my wife Margaret enough for her help with this tournament without her help I could not have put it on. Respectfully submitted by William Purves. |
